Hydroxypropylmethylcellulose (HPMC) is a non-ionic cellulose ether prepared by a series of chemical processing with natural macromolecular material cellulose as raw material. Hydroxypropylmethylcellulose (HPMC) is a odorless, tasteless, non-toxic white powder that can be dissolved in cold water to form a transparent viscous solution. It has the properties of thickening, adhesion, dispersion, emulsification, film formation, suspension, adsorption, gelation, surface activity, water retention and colloid protection.
Application of hydroxypropyl methyl cellulose in building materials
1. Masonry mortar plastering mortar
High water retention can fully hydrate the cement. Significantly increase the bonding strength. At the same time, the tensile and shear strength can be appropriately increased. Greatly improve the construction effect and work efficiency.
2. Water-resistant putty
In the putty, cellulose ether is mainly used for water retention, bonding and lubrication, to avoid cracks or powder removal caused by rapid water loss, and to increase the adhesion of the putty, reduce the sagging phenomenon in the construction, so that the construction is smooth and labor-saving.
3. Interface agent
Mainly used as a thickener, it can improve tensile strength and shear strength, improve surface coating, enhance adhesion and bond strength.
4. Exterior wall thermal insulation mortar
Cellulose ether plays a key role in bonding and increasing strength in this material, making the mortar easier to be coated, improving work efficiency, and having the ability to resist sagging. The higher water retention performance can extend the service life of the mortar, improve the anti-shrinkage and anti-cracking properties, improve the surface quality, and improve the bonding strength.
5. Tile adhesive
With high water retention, it is not necessary to soak or wet the ceramic tile and substrate in advance, which can significantly improve its bonding strength. The slurry can be constructed in a long period, exquisite, uniform, convenient construction, and has good anti-sliding property.
6. Filler and gutter filler
The addition of cellulose ether makes it have good edge adhesion, low shrinkage and high wear resistance, which protects the base material from mechanical damage and avoids the negative impact of water penetration on the whole building.
7. Self-leveling material
The stable viscosity of cellulose ether ensures good fluidity and self-leveling ability, and controls the water retention rate to enable it to quickly solidify, reduce cracking and shrinkage.
What are the main uses of HPMC?
HPMC is widely used in building materials, coatings, synthetic resins, ceramics, medicine, food, textile, agriculture, cosmetics, tobacco and other industries. HPMC can be divided into building grade, food grade and medical grade according to its use. At present, most of the domestic products are of construction grade. In the construction grade, the amount of putty powder is large, about 90% of which is used for putty powder, and the rest is used for cement mortar and glue.
What are the dissolution methods of HPMC
(1) Whiteness: Although whiteness cannot determine whether HPMC is easy to use, and if whitening agent is added in the production process, its quality will be affected. However, most good products have good whiteness.
(2) Fineness: HPMC generally has 80 meshes and 100 meshes, with less 120 meshes. HPMC produced in Hebei mostly has 80 meshes. The finer the fineness, the better in general.
(3) Light transmittance: put hydroxypropyl methyl cellulose (HPMC) into water to form a transparent colloid, and see its light transmittance. The greater the light transmittance, the better, indicating that there is less insoluble matter in it. The permeability of the vertical reactor is generally good, and that of the horizontal reactor is worse. However, it cannot be said that the quality of the vertical reactor is better than that of the horizontal reactor. The product quality is determined by many factors.
(4) Specific gravity: the greater the specific gravity, the heavier the better. It is more important because the content of hydroxypropyl in it is high. If the content of hydroxypropyl is high, the water retention is better
